Leaf Music : A Case Study.

“Leaf is the next generation music experience. A social network that combines music, community and commerce; giving fans a direct way to discover, connect and support the artists behind the music they love.”

Through our work with Campus North, we were introduced to the team at Leaf, a music-tech startup launched in Costa Rica in 2014. The Leaf team truly are a worldwide operation reaching millions of music-loving users in cities such as Mexico City, London, Istanbul, NYC and LA.

CEO Gilbert Coralles spoke recently at Newcastle Startup Week, stating that they had a number of offers to be headquartered in various cities, but chose Newcastle because of it’s potential.

“When we first came to the UK, we came to London, and through the people we met, we found out about this place called Newcastle. In many ways it reminded me of being back in Costa Rica because of it’s potential, we could see a lot of things happening and we really wanted to be a part of that.”

Having been here for around 2 years, Leaf had outgrown their current space and were in search for somewhere that would allow them to scale their business into the future.

The Brief

Through an initial conversation, we focused on Leaf’s core requirements;
1. A Fibre broadband 80/20 connection that would support around 20 people.
2. A wifi solution, allowing for remote access for both guests and staff.
3. Local Support, 7 days a week.

Our Solution

One of the key themes throughout our conversations with the guys at Leaf was scalability. 
Having one eye on the future needs of the business was key to any solution that we provided.

Through our initial investigations, we highlighted that a new line would also be required to support the new connection, as there were no active lines in the new office.

We explored possibilities of a leased line directly into the building but as a startup, it was more cost effective, however, to choose a fibre 80/20 connection, keeping costs to a minimum initially with the potential to add a leased line should their team need to grow quickly.

Further Support

Since going live in their new space, we have been able to provide Leaf with further Wifi solutions, by addressing wifi dead spots within the office. This has ensured that all users get a more consistent connection throughout.
